Have you looked at Mediajukebox or mediacenter?  website is
www.mediajukebox.com,  Ive been using various releases over the last
2 years to database and play my every growing collection of ~15'000
mp3's well at least at the moment.  I also store these files on a
Linux server that serves them up via samba to any machine in the
house that wants to play them. The database (library as its called in
MJ) resides on the server, so playlists, import etc are only done
once.
