Good quality detectors will normally seal around the cover so bugs don't
get
in, you do need to seal around the cable entry and any other holes.
In a garage I always use a dualtech (PIR/microwave) detector as the
environment is not stable enough for a PIR, this will normally overcome the
spider problem.
