I checked with ACMETECH about this, and they confirmed that 3U and above
cases will happily take standard height PCI cards in the standard
configuration (i.e. upright in the mainboard slots, rather than using a
riser card).
I plan to purchase 2 x 3U cases over the next couple of weeks (months?) to
convert a couple of desktop PC's to rackmount just as has been described.
If
you do it any sooner, then do please let me (us) know how it goes...
