I considered this approach; getting back to a know point, but I cant
find one. The TV/AV button is a toggle, and the channel up/down only
work if it already is in TV mode.

The only _sure_ way to get it into a known state, is to perform a
standby and restart. Not an option I am afraid.

I will find some way out; these days we rarely use the internal tuner,
so I might rebuild the macros to assume AV mode, and have a
get-back-to-tuner button in the rare instance that would not work.

Thanks

Steve

You can also usually manage pseudo-discrete functionality by figuring
out a starting point.

For example, on my tv, no matter what video mode it is in, if I press a
channel button (either a number or the up/down buttons) it switches back
to TV. And I know how many "Input" presses it is to get to the
correct
input from there...

For example, to guarantee a switch to video-1, I send [Up+Input]. To
guarantee a switch to Video 2, I send [UP+Input+Input]

Steve,

I've had the same problem with a customers old sony telly. The AV inputs
are addressed by scrolling through the same IR commands.

The only way I've thought of so far would be to build a IR controller
scart-scart unit which switched the 'active' pin 8 on when an IR command
is received (would have to be discrete on and off commands). Then with
an IR controlled scart switcher, you could have Pronto macros that would
activate the scart input, and switch to the right input on the switcher.
When you go back to the telly signal, de-activate the scart input.

Someday I'll get off my ass and try it.

Richard

Ah-ha. That's the puppy.

This works for the TV. I tried something like this to get my Akai VCR to
record a few years ago (it also needs a held press) when my Pronto was
new, and before I had TiVo; but I could never get that to work.

The TV is now turning on and off at least (Panasonic TV have no discrete
codes for AV selection, so now I have to think my way around that one, I
was spoilt with the Sony!).

Many thanks for your help everybody.

Steve
