I think you'll find you need 8 channels. With SATA you can only put one
device
on a channel, unlike parallel where you could put two. I can highly
recommend
3ware ATA RAID controllers, I have one of their 8 channel parallel IDE
adapters on my Linux server and it works a treat (wish I could say the same
for the hard drives I'm using, not very reliable!)

I would stay away from Promise, who also do ATA RAID cards, I bought one of
their originally because it was cheaper, but its performance was awful and
it
kept corrupting the array.
