Access Control

Hi All,

This is slightly OT as it's not 'home' automation per se, rather business
automation but I hope you all don't mind that.

I'm am trying to find a means of controlling access to a building (and
rooms
within) via a swipe/barcode/proximity card type solution. All very off the
shelf so far perhaps but I'd like to be able to interface this system with
a
server that contains the details of people allowed access. Ideally this
would be bi-directional so that the server could push the list of valid
users of a daily or hourly basis (people would have set periods when they
are entitled to access the system) to the door entry system and pull off a
log of accesses.

The server will be a Linux box so Windows solutions don't really help much
but as long as the entry system has a standard protocol and interface I
don't mind knocking something up so the software doesn't have to be there
as
such, just the capability to do it. Ideally some kind of real-time response
would be great so I can interface with a ZoneMinder installation and label
the recorded events with the name of the people coming and going but this
is
not an absolute requirement.

Anyone have any experience of this kind of thing?

Cheers,

Phil,
