Except that the disk manufacturers probably do this to make their disks
appear bigger, and there was probably no such malice involved in the
definition of a mile. A nautical mile, OTOH, is a sensible measure of
distance from an aviation or maritime point of view (being 1 minute of 1
degree of the earth's latitude)
