Can I assume that as a regular emitter can be hooked up directly to a
Xantech receiver the output is modulated?

I don't know as sadly I cannot afford

Neither can I really - had to sell a kidney :-)

Demodulated means the IR 'carrier' (the 38KHz bit present

Well I'm really getting into this soldering lark (it's all your fault
BTW ;-)), so I would prefer to find a homebrew solution.
