[Slightly OT] Anyone experience in ordering trade samples from China?

Hi.

I was lucky enough to come across 2 websites.

www.alibaba.com

and

www.globalsources.com


I prefer the first one for its listing of thousands of products. The
trouble
is I'm not sure what the process is for ordering samples.

1) Do I have to have a registered Ltd company to buy ?
2) How should I ask for a sample. What do they expect.

There are lots of things on there that can be used for home automation. And
I'm sure some mass buying will come into play once you lot have seen whats
on offer.

Alternatively any forums or mailing lists you know of relating to this
enquiry would be good
