There is a Microsoft program called SysPrep that will wind back an install
to
the point just before hardware installation. I've seen this used to make a
"virgin"
ghost image with no hardware installed that can then be restored to a new
PC and
it will just detect the hardware it finds. This was on Win2K but I think
that
there is an XP version of it.

I *think* ghost 2003 comes with a similar facility built in... trouble is
that
I can't figure out how to use Ghost2003 :S. Norton seem to have taken a
small
simple program that just did what you wanted and made it a lot bigger and
more complicated..
