RE: Re: [OT] TomTom+GPS ?

I can confirm this. It is illegal to manufacture a speedo which under
reads, even by 1%, But they are legal if they over read by something
like 10%, so the manufacturers err on the side of caution and we all
think we are driving faster than we are...

My only concern is that GPSs base speed on straight lines, point to
point ? Depending how often it samples you could go round a sweeping
bend faster than your GPS reads ??? As I say it depends on the sample
rate...

Hi Rob,

You will generally find that your cars speedo is out by some 10% in most
if
not all cases and will read higher than the GPS speed.

This is great when on a motorway etc and you see a police car ahead.
Everyone else is driving with their speedo readings and staying behind
the
cops and you use the GPS to pass them all. The looks you get are great
:o)

Marcus,

I get something like this every now and then but not so severe. The
indicator shows that I'm sideways in the road sometimes but corrects
itself as soon as you start moving.

The odd thing I have noticed is that my speed on TomTom is
constantly 4 mph slower than that shown on the car speedo.

Rob
