Just as a long shot are you sure you're using the correct IR protocol in
the
setup? I experienced exactly the same trouble with my Tivo (And even after
buying a RF2 link) and then realised that even though my Sky box was an
Amstrad it's actually using the 2016 protocol (Grundig I think???) as do
all
sky digital boxes.

It worked fine on the Amstrad codes just would occasionally (actually
regularly) drop an extra digit when changing channel etc.

I also bought an RF2Link from PaceLink and it made absolutely no
difference.
