I see the perfect solution as a cheap touch screen pocket-pc with a
browser, wall mounted (landscape) with a wifi card or built in wifi (or
bluetooth).

Got to be a winner. The only stumbling block will be an effective UI for
whatever system you are using. Even I failed miserably to get a basic
HomeSeer webpage working (forgetting the built in defaults - too much
info).

Mark - need a promo picture of a pocket pc such as this on a wall for the
site :-)

Nice idea, sounds very Star Trek to me. Add a flip
open lid and crackly speech synthesis and you've got
your very own Tricorder.

TV control
Lighting control
Heating control
Temperature monitoring
Telephone logs.
Listening to answering machine recordings
Web browsing
Music/Video selection
'Beam me up Scotty' facility

All using a back end database for storage and xAp/xPl
for communication.

Could be quite useful :)
