I think Mark was referring to not having to need a light switch at all, so
when they walk in the lights come on. Replace the switch totally with some
kind of occupancy detection (a kind of HA Holy Grail as the different
methods
all have their drawbacks, hence the "ultimate goal")

I know Mark has a fairly impressive setup in one of his corridors with
automatic lights that always impresses his guests.

I believe CBus might be a solution, but at a cost. It basically does the
same
as X10, but at a higher cost. I'll hopefully be seeing it in action in a
couple of weeks when I go and visit Umar's pad, where he's just installed
CBus.
