The water-valve system looks exactly the same as I was planning - even down
the using the same valves from RS!  I concerned about flow rate through the
valves, so it's good to see that someone else has it working first :-)

I'm going to connect mine to the house PC via USB - the water supply is
only
the other side of the wall from the PC, so range isn't a problem, and I
have
one of those USB chips from FTDI ( http://www.ftdichip.com/FTProduct.htm

to play with (any excuse, eh?)

xAP is intriguing - I was going to use Autom8it, but I'll have a look at
this before taking the plunge.
