X10 software, and serial port?

Hi,

I am trying to simulate X10 data, being input into a PC serial port
to Activhome, but could be any software that accepts X10 input!

(Eventually I want to connect a micro to input data in X10 format
into the serial port, using X10 format enables me, to use a lot of
existing PC software)

I have searched the net but have only found, is an article by Edward
Cheung.

I have tried all morning to get activehome to receive data sent out
by a separate PC via a "terminal" program into my laptop without
success? I know data is being sent out, as I am monitoring it using
PortMon software.

I am not certain of the data format to be sent, for example "all
lights off" ?
The COM port set up is 4800, 8 bit, no parity, 1 stop bit, is this
correct?

Can anyone help please?

Regards,

Gary
