The Antec Sonata is a loveley case. I built a couple of machines in them
when OCUK had them on offer. They are very quiet and the HD's rotated
thro 90o is a nice touch.
Because I change my hardware quite a lot I have stuck with Athlons but
if you want truly quiet I would recomend the P4 route. I cannot really
comment much on P4 motherboards, except that you wont go far wrong with
ASUS. Again without knowing your budget it is hard to advise I just
bought a PowerColor Radeon 9200 SE 128MB Low Profile - Retail
(GX-011-PC)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_PowerColor_149.h
tml
Not a bad card for 40 quid or so, if you want good quality 2D, SVideo
in, dual display and hardware accelerated DVD playback, but I rate ATi
over NVidia every day of the week. Memory is cheap at the moment, stick
a gig of pc400 in, you wont regret it. Again storage is cheap these
days, 120gig SATA HD Western Digital Caviar 120GB Special Edition 8MB
Cache Serial ATA - OEM (HD-009-WD)
99 quid inc the vat. Dont buy the Raptors (10,000 rpm) they get way too
hot then will require extra cooling and noise.
The rest is personal choice. Then just replace noise components (like
northbridge fans) with passive heatsinks from Zalman.

OK OK I'm getting all excited now. I like the look of the Antec Sonata
Piano Black Quiet Case - 380W TruePower Silent PSU (CA-003-AT)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Antec_160.html

It sounds (No pun!) just what I've been looking for and cheaper than
the
ones on quietpc.com as it includes the PSU.

So what do I put in it?

I want it as a general all rounder PC. Will mainly do 1)Media - i.e.
Wavs. 2) Internet/Email 3)Word and general office stuff.
No gaming or anything like that? (May also consider building one as a
Win2k Server box?)

I'm well outa touch on this sort of thing so any recommendations on
Mobo's (One with LAN onboard + Audio maybe?), Graphics Card (One that
could take an S-Video feed IN for viewing DVD, Tivo etc?), processor,
ram?

Many thanks

Rob Mouser

Also have a look at
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Water_Cooling.html
for their water coolling kit or if you want to go the whole hog look
at
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/VapoChill_Systems.html
for
their
Vapochill systems.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Enermax_111.html
are
nice and quite PSUs

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Other_Coolers_57
.html
list most of the zalman passive cooling bits and pieces.
I dont know how quiet you want to go Rob, but these are very good PSU
coolers
Coolermaster Aero 4

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Coolermaster_122
.html
I use them on my PCs in my office and unless the machine is under load
(when i
turn them up to full) the Northbridge fan is louder than the CPU fan !
