If you're using fairly basic speakers a 79 strand speaker cable should be
fine, although you don't need a perfect audio environment to appreciate
differences in audio quality. You may wish to consider putting a better
quality cable in for your main listening area (the level you went to would
be dictated by the system you choose) and then the 79 strand for secondary
listening areas. The subwoofer/system itself will determine the options
open
to you for the sub connection(s). This will be either high level (speaker
level using speaker cable) and/or low level (line level as between say CD
and amp using a single phono cable). If you're not sure what system will be
going in yet then allow for both types of connection, the quality of cables
would depend again on the anticipated quality of the system, with a basic
system you would again get away with 79 strand for the speaker level and a
standard phono interconnect for the low level. For a higher quality system
use a better quality of speaker cable and a specific subwoofer
interconnect.

Subject: [ukha_d] Speaker wire specification

Anyone got any recommendation on the type of speaker wire to use for
in-wall wiring. I can't find practical advice anywhere!

I'm thinking of using 79 strand as it seems reasonable quality and
price. Anything more seems like a waste unless you've got a perfect
audio environment (which in a house you don't generally).

I'm wanting to install cabling ready for surround sound home
theatre, and whole house audio.

BTW, anyone know what cabling type is required to connect a
subwoofer, and are there any run length limitations?

Many thanks
Dave
