Way I have used is to :

1. Rip using SmartRipper
2. Use
http://doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/VirtualDubMod_1_5_4_1_All_inclusive.zip
to
convert to divx - this virtualdub build supports mpeg2

There are other guides up at http://doom9.org/software.htm

Which one to use ??

I'm thinking about copying my DVD collection to my HTPC - I guess you
can stream DIVX across a home network.

If so, what software is best for creating DIVX from commercial DVD's

Thanks

Dean.
