Ooops, that point was obvious to me, but didn't click enough to mention it.
You can see if a service is running by having a look in the Control Panel /
Administrative Tool / Services, if it's setup, it'll be in there...

Erm... How do you know?

The point about SVRANY is that it runs programs as services. As such,
it doesn't help for anything that needs to present a GUI.

So, it's not useful for things like Word which are fundamentally
applications that you interact with on the PC in question...

... but absolutely fine for server-side things, like, say, JReceiver
which will happily run in a console.

I had been thinking that the bit of HV you wanted to run was the web
server - I'd forgotten that the supplied HomeVision software also
needs to present a GUI, since I don't use it except when programming
HV. I'm not sure what will happen to the GUI bit - whether it will
supress the GUI, or simply bomb out on not being able to instantiate
any of the screen objects...
