Voice Over IP

Hi,

Anybody had any experience with VOIP telephones?  Are they easy to set up /
use?  With LAN connectivity in nearly every room it occured to me that
installing VOIP telephones would offer intercom facilities between rooms.
With ADSL installed it should also cut down costs on overseas calls
(assuming other end party has a VOIP telephone, or we use a VOIP gateway in
the country where the call is destined for).

These have come up on ebay and seem ridiculously cheap:

But I believe that they need to use proprietry software from CISCO which is
no longer available.
