Ahh, that makes more sense. I had forgotten about that format altogether!
what was it again, light degrading discs? I recall reading that the main
reason for that format's failure was the fact that people really don't get
(or don't like) this "buy the right to watch it" rather than
"buy it"

Well, "DivX" is the current way of referring to the codec (have a
look at
www.divx.com or www.doom9.org ), the original v3 codec was
"DIVx", if I
recall. I seem to remember the format using "DivX" as well..
