I found this report, which analyses the various sources of SPAM
fascinating. It seems to tally well with my own experiences.
Overriding advice seems to be: obfuscate those e-mail addresses on
web sites, avoid using address that are susceptible to dictionary
based attacks and never include a valid e-mail address in a newsgroup
message header.
