Robot is hi-tech home helper

TOSHIBA Corporation has developed a "sophisticated home robot",
ApriAlpha,
which is designed to carry out multiple tasks around the house.

ApriAlpha integrates voice recognition and voice synthesis technologies to
allow it to hold conversations with people, and image recognition
technology
to recognise people whose features are recorded to its memory.

Toshiba has also developed an "Open Robot Controller", which
means ApriAlpha
can be quickly and easily programmed to carry out new tasks.

According to Toshiba, ApriAlpha has been developed to function as a
user-friendly interface between the equipment in a home network and the
people who use it.

Toshiba is continuing to develop ApriAlpha with the ultimate aim of
achieving a 'life support partner' - a robot that can handle household
chores and help care for the aged or ill.
