I work in the broadcast industry where often the racks have thousands of
quite bulky cables. I tend to use 800mm deep racks for two main reasons.
1/ generally the broadcast kit is a lot deeper than HA kit
2/ The extra 200mm depth enables me to put cable tray up at the rear of the
rack behind the equipment
I have never known anybody use 800mm wide racks although I think BT used to
use 21" rather than 19" racks

I meant 800 wide. I've been told that the extra room is useful for cable
management, but (a) that
was a salesman and (b) I'm not sure how necessary it is in an HA
environment. From your comments, I
assume you believe an 800 wide rack is not worth it?
