Kinda OT, Gas pipe armour source

Hi,

Kinda OT for my particular use but the answer might come in useful for
others.

When I had my boiler fitted a few years back, they fitted it in the loft
so I ended up with a copper gas pipe going from the gas meter to the
loft on the outside of the house. I am currently considering having a
garage built at the rear of the property which will mean passing this
gas pipe on a daily basis. Although I have no intention of hitting it
with a car or anything else, this has given me a good reason to
investigate my original plan of armouring the pipe against unwanted
knocks.

However, I have no idea whatsoever where to source such armouring and no
guarantee that it actually exists. I assume it must since retro fitted
gas mains pipes appear to be armoured although that seems to be as much
a part of the pipe itself as anything else, while I really want to fit
armour over the existing pipe.

I only really need a short length since I do not intend to armour the
entire pipe, just say a couple metres to take it well away from any
chance of knocks. However, early termination might cause problems with
water penetration from the top so I guess I will need to either leave an
opening at the base or seal the top somehow.

If anyone has attempted such a project in the past, experiences would be
welcome. Recommendations and ideas for suppliers are obviously welcome.

Cheers,

Mark.
