Claudio,

There is a simple experiment you can try.

My Tivo has been in standby all day. I just switched it on, pressed
"live
tv", then pressed "pause". It shows 30 minutes of recorded
tv that I can
rewind through if I want to. How has it managed to record the past 30
minutes of live TV for me whilst in standby without writing to the disk?

Ray Barnett.

Doogie & Tony,

Im sorry but I disagree with you both.

Yes, the disk is always spinning but I don't believe there are any
writes going on unless the TIVO is doing its daily call or its recording
(either something you want or one of its suggestions). If recording one
of its suggestions, I doubt for most people this would involve recording
24/7. Ive actually disabled this option anyway.

So I still believe it is better (for the longevity of the disk) to have
a disk spinning without writes being performed unnecessarily.

Please correct me if I have said anything that is incorrect!

Does anyone know whether Homevision or Comfort can replicate the TIVO
standby? If so an option may be to have Homevision put the TIVO in
standby when everyone is in bed? Not that I have Homevision or Comfort
just now but they are in the plans.

Cheers
Claude
