Re: CCTV Software

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask for a comparison, I may not
be entirely objective but I'll give it a go!

As far as I can tell the main advantage for me is that it's Linux and free
of course. Not only that but I feel I can go away for a few weeks and
be confident that when I return the box will still be running exactly as
I left it. My experience with Windows is somewhat different, YMMV
of course.

The other software I've seen seems a bit more 'toy' like. Inasmuch as
it's fun to play with for a while and see yourself on the camera etc. But
I've tried to make mine designed to run entirely unattended and in a
daemon style if you want that. The interface of course is OS independant
being browser based. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but
is intended to be simple, clear and quick.

Perhaps the biggest advantage though is that it's designed for me to use
myself so anything I put in has to be useful to me or another user. It's
also highly configurable for different circumstances.

Finally of course, it's written by someone who's enthusiastic about the
project. If you want a missing featrure or bugfix I can usually do it
within a day or so (if it's simple and useful) and so you can have it
working on your system in a matter of days.

Is that enough? Did I mention it was free?

Cheers,

Phil,
