You may be better off with an omnidirectional antenna for that. To
find
an AP in the area, you'd have to be pointing your antenna directly at
it.
Think about how long it'd take to stand in one place and point a pringles
can in *every* direction. Now wash, rinse, and repeat for a whole
road.
With an omnidirectional antenna, you just wander down the road at a
leisurely pace waiting for a new network to appear in Netstumbler.
