CRT manufacturers by default defocus the blue gun because the eye is
less sensitive to blue than red/green hence most installers (even pros)
tend to overdrive the blue gun. If the blue is set up to be properly
focussed by the manufacturer then the blue CRT will be trashed in next
to no time.
The blue gun - by being defocussed - spreads the beam over a larger
area
of phosphor allowing more light to be generated at the expense of a
small amount of smearing of the blue image (which since the eye is less
sensitive to it you don't notice anyway).
I have no experience of the Vidikron projector in question so cannot
make any recommendations/comments...
