Hi Phil,
I am using one of those electronic scale removers (working on some ultrasound frequencies) and my plumber told me that it really cleaned the pipes and radiators because he couldn't find any limescale in the heating system. However, I installed it primarily because I have a dry skin and hard water makes it itchy. It didn't help me on that front.
I think it's because it's designed just to prevent building scale, but limescale is still in the water, just it doesn't attach to the pipes. That's why they say that it doesn't work if water, after treated, is left in a tank.
Water softeners actully remove limescale from the water, but they use salt, so running is more expensive.
At least those I my conclusions.
Beware, there are many types of softeners, using resins etc. and not every type is suitable for everything. It depends what you want to eliminate >from
Let me know what you find.
Regards,
Nik

We live in a very hard water area ... Wifey would like one of the
"Kinetico" type water softeners but they're too damn expensive and to my
mind make the water feel "greasy" (my in-laws have one as does my
brother in law and both places are the same - the water feels "slippery"
due to the salt).

Has anyone used the electronic "conditioners" that claim to stop the
formation of scale? How well do they work?

Phil
