First public version will be a small client
with a
mediaplayer frame inside and a listbox with all the available source at the
encoder.
You will be able to remotely select one of
(let's
say) 4 USB connected webcams.
The list will be loaded at startup with all
the
available source (can be audio, video or AV).
In this moment I have 3 USB webcams (with mic
included) and the AV receiver output connected to a Pinnacle Lynx
USB
AV cable (again with his own mic).
In that way, I can use the system not only for
surveillance purpose, but even to remotely select one of the home
entertainment
system AV sources (vcr, sat, TV, DVD) using Infrared Remote
Manager.
Even when I am abroad, I can see my favourite
radio/tv program using Windows Media streaming.
Sounds interesting for you?
BR,
Dan

Hi,
I
make
some tests. Theoretical limit is 5m per segment for a maximum of 5
segments. Practically, using STP cable I
get reliable connection even at 10m. It is possible to get even more.
You can use the 8 wire like that:
- 4 for the standard usb pins
- 2 for power supply GND
- 2 for +5V for the powered hub.
Take care that it is possible not to be
able to use 2 webcams on the same USB hub. Usually, one cam request aprox.
75%
of the bandwidth.
BR,
Dan
P.S. This is what I use in this moment.
I will post in a couple of days, on my
site
(http://www.geocities.com/tdanro)
a
small application to select one of the AV source connected to a Windows
Media
Encoder remotely, when not home. Is very
usefull for surveillance purpose.
