Mally,
I don't have Homevision so I can't give a fair answer, but from what
I understand you can have more programatic control of X10 if you
connect your computer up to a CM12. You have the choice of ActiveHome
(simple but prone to crashing), Homeseer (powerful), and a couple of
other control package.
With Homeseer alone you can active the built-in web server and
control your home over the Internet or locally from any PC on your
home network. Events can be set up with complex conditions and if you
can program in VB or ASP you can create your own application or
extend X10 control to whatever else you can connect your computer to!
Homeseer can speak to you so you know what it's doing and it has
basic voice control. If only I had a tiny radio lapell microphone
with batteries that last a week I'd use that feature! ;-)
Oh, and Homeseer is much cheaper than Homevision, but each product
was designed for a different purpose. Some people have and use both.
I'm sure a Homevision user will be along in a minute to correct me
and explain about the product.
Gary.

question I have is, should I go for Homevision or something like a
CM12U with, for example, homeseer/bespoke software ?
