Getting a neat NTL installation

My wife wants NTL TV and broadband for her birthday.  The latter
sounds 
fun (but I have little interest in TV) but I don't want wires all over 
the walls as I've seen with other cable installations.

What is the least wiring I can get them to do and which bits can I do 
myself?
Will they go into the house underground if I make it easy for them or 
will they always insist in coming through an above ground wall? 
Will they go under the floor or are they "nail to the walls"
guys?
