Hi John,
Do you already have a garage door opener installed? Most take a single
contact closure to trigger the open/close sequence. My own door can be
opened via either of 3 ways, a push switch in the garage, a remote
control
or my own homemade external keycode key pad.
For X10 you could look at the PUM01 from Laser or the UM7206 from
Letsautomate as these have a low voltage contact that can drive the
trigger
input of the door mechanism.
