Re: AutoM8it

Dan,
Just one question. The X10 plugin works without the X10 interface?
I want to test it in a virtual mode and I cannot start it in this moment, because I have no interface.
Maybe is a good idea to make all the plugins to work even without the interface. For the infrared one, in order to test the functionality even if you don't have a hardware interface, in the configuration page there is a checkbox where you can choose to hear 2 short beeps on the server when an infrared command is sent. It can be generalized to all the plugins.

>>> Yes this can be done if it is helpfull

Some more ideas:
I think is better to have access to the whole AutoM8it functionality from the web interface, in order to :
    - define new events remotely
    - configure the plugins

>>> Yes these are on my todo list

Load the plugins dynamically, without restarting the AutoM8it framework;

>>> Yes i was doing this at one point but had some very tricky errors with it
>>> I need to look at this more closely

Possibility to use IIS as web server, in order to implement other security layers, like HTTPS connections without an extra cost;

>>> You can use IIS as the web server but it has issues with calling out of process component (which AutoM8it is)
>>> I spent some time trying to get this to work 100% and will continure to persue it

Some other plugins to implement:
    - a video input plugin which can trigger an event when something is changed in the image (surveillance purpose). Then to start send the video to a remote host for storage (this as a separate output plugin, which can be triggered by another input event too);
    - dial-up output plugin which can be triggered by an input event (let's say someone ring the door bell) and then establish an audio link phone-to-server, in order to talk with the person >from

>>>> Very good ideas!

My idea is to transform the framework in something more security oriented and fully remotely operated using a secured connection (not only based on simple authentication). In that way you can fully control and secure your house remotely.

>>>> I totally agree

Any more ideas?

>>> not at the moment - thanks for all the great feedback.

Dave,

Just a quick note to answer you question, its no problem to add the devices to the X10 events
and maybe even drag drop, as you say we can continue this offline.

Unless Dan has any more ideas to contribute here.

Jim
