PowerFlash with reed switch doing odd things

I have a powerflash unit connected to a Maplin sourced reed switch -
it's the "heavy duty" unit that is supposed to handle movement of
doors etc. The switch is attached to a garden gate, cable runs about
2 meters into the garage to the powerflash unit. It's assigned as B9
where there are no lamps etc on "B" house setting.

The HomeVision detects the B9 on/off and triggers outside lights to
come on/off accordingly.

Problem is that at random points I am seeing the unit send on/off
signals for no apparant reason - it sends about 5-6 on/off signals in
a burst with a second between. I have tried wobbling the gate but
that does not seem to cause the problem - so I don't think it's wind.

If I turn the powerflash off and on it seems to not send the signals
for a while, not sure if this means the powerflash is the problem or
simply that the problem is not happening at that time.

I am in the process of trying some things and trying to track the
issue down - but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas? Could it be
conflicts in X10 signals? I'll try changing it's address. Can
moisture affect the reed switch and cause this?

Any ideas?

Bov!
