RS do a handy dispenser that has sticky tape you write on with some clear
excess to then protect the writing
As for labelling
Give each cable a 4 digit number
Then create a spreadsheet/database/word doc with
Source. Destination. Type and current use
It will save you a lot of hassle in the future
Especially when you change things round

The professional way is to use numbered sleeves which are colour coded  but
that might be OTT for your house
