to dissuade someone from THX, how was it intended?

The original question was asking whether someone should be looking at
THX DVD players only and what relevance did THX have.
In simple terms "Do I just look at THX kit"?
My answer was intended to show why that person should not stick to just
THX kit and should look at all kit, something that you seem to think
I'm
trying to dissuade him from doing - the subsequent discussion between
Nick and me should have just reinforced the notion that THX
certification is little more than the attainment of a minimum set of
technical specs (and a cynical proposal by me that THX certification
has
evolved into more of a moneyspinner for Lucasfilm).
I wonder whether the original poster is regretting asking that question
as much as I am now regretting answering it?
