SWMBO has sanctioned the purchase of a Tivo (thought to be fair I did
gloss over the subs a bit : And the tivonet card. And the extra
harddrive).

However, this however leads me to the now common problem of "not
enough cat5 for the new box".

Due to many problems there is no way I can run more to that corner of
the lounge. So I was browsing Netshops site and came across these
splitter things that plug into the sockets either end of a cable run
and create two sockets each end. However, these things are expensive
and look untidy.

So,
1) do these things really work (for 100megabit)?
2) Can I just plug an extra cat5 module into the existing wall socket
and rewire the cable into both modules, and then rewire the cable at
the patch panel to use two neighbouring sockets? (instead of using
the splitter).
3) If I can do this, does anyone have a suitable wiring diagram?

TIA.
