RE: Costs for Programming a Pronto

Title: [ukha_d] Costs for Programming a Pronto
Ben,

Difficult to know. One of the problems is that it's a bit like HTML programming - if you want a static installation, you can get your 17-year-old brother to do it for £10 / hour. In these days of Remotecentral.com having drivers for everything, it's not as if it's time-intensive to learn the code - the added value is in the screen layout and macros.

I'd suggest that you look for a percentage of the installation - say 1% of the price the customer pays for the entire system?

So - if a customer spends £10k, that would be £100. £10k is at the bottom of the custom installation market. If a customer spends £40k, then you'd get £400.

Regards,

Mark

Subject: [ukha_d] Costs for Programming a Pronto

Hello all,

I am looking for some advice and guidence.

I friend of mine runs a high end Home Cinema and Home Automation shop,
more and more ofted he is selling Systems and the customers are totally
confused with the remotre control systems. So he has decided to sell
them prontos programmed for their system, and this is where I come in.

He as asked my if I will do the programming, for a charge of course.

How much should I look to charge?

Most of these systems are going to have between 3 and 6 devices and the
programming usually involves around 2 hours at the customer site
tweaking the setup.

I did a simple setup last night for him, consisting of a Plasma, DVD,
Amp and Video with 2 hours setup at the customers house and he paid me
£150. I am just trying to arrange a more formal agreement so that if I
have to do more work then I get paid more. Should I charge per device?

Any ideas and thoughts?

Regards

Ben
