I'd agree with this. I was quoted =A31000 for a convential alarm installati= on
(rather OOT, considering the components come to less than =A3200), and deci= ded
the DIY route would save me more money than the discount on insurance.

You might also find that you can get the discount if you're certified in some way (not the way that includes a nice white coat that fastens at the back though). My brother installed his own, and got a reduction based on hi= s
Chartered Engineer status.
