british gas controller

I want to be able to turn on the gas hot water using a appliance din
module.
Currently a british gas controller is turning on the water and central
heating.
Am i right in thinking the controller just acts like a swich so there
for
i find the wires and use the din appliance switch or is there more
to consider ?
