You could try a =91standard friction hinge=92 like the ones on this page:

These are the type used on window sashes that allow you to
reach both sides of the window when you open them.

By fixing the part that normally attaches to the window frame
to the kitchen unit and the other part to the screen, it=92ll
give a nice motion where it moves forward as you pull it
down. Once it reaches the vertical, it should be quite secure
when pressing on the screen.

With a bit of ingenuity, you may even be able to attack a
motor and lead screw to automate it.
