If you run os X you can mount windows shares without dave
I also keep a copy of VNC to access my main pc for the once in a blue moon
when I really NEED an evil empire OS and can't be ar$ed to leave my
settee.

They can indeed ... NT4 and W2K Server can set themselves up as Apple
Share Servers and the iMac will just treat them as another Mac drive.
If you want it to see Windows 9x shares, you need a piece of software
called 'Dave'. As I just talk to the servers with it, then I don't need
it.
