I tapped "consume wireless" into google, and http://consume.net was the
first on the list.

Someone rebooted the server, and the database didn't come up again. 
They're
fixing it.  It's been generally very reliable, and useful for finding local
nodes.

Maybe a little more patience?  Join the mailing list - there's loads of
clever people on there, and it's not high bandwidth.  There are areas where
there is a good number of close nodes.  When I move house, there will be 2
nodes within range, and one which may be.
