As I understand it there is no easy solution to this. Pace in their
wisdom used IRDA for these boxes. IRDA is a short range protocol, < 3
feet. There is a remote control variation but again in a fit of
wisdom Pace decided not to use this and developed their own.

There are some specific IRDA to RS232 decoders but these are surface
mount units and not for the feint hearted. I am sort of playing with
one at the moment. So far it is mounted on a footprint converter for
breadboard use.

Ideally what you need to do is build a converter that will
take 'normal' IR and send it as RS232 to the IRDA chip which would
then transmit it as IRDA for your Pace box. You could then add
mapping in the middle - receive x and rend y. In theory this is
something I might build in time but I have other things to do as well
so don't hold your breath.

I would think you may have limited success with a PC (honestly don't
know) but who would want one of these sitting by the telly in normal
circumstances. You would have to write your own program as well I
guess.
