Why Tivo?

Hi all,

I need some Tivo info, that I'm sure at least 10 people here would know, so here goes with the questions.

1. Can tivo recording be controlled over a network?

2. Can tivo recording be controlled over the Internet?

3. Can you copy recorded programs from a tivo to a pc over a network, and use them (IE edit and playback, assuming that its some kind of mpeg2?)

4. How difficult are the above to achieve?

5. Anyone have any info on that sonicblue box that had an internet file sharing stuff builtin?

I'm sure there are people here that used Showshifter before the price cut. How do the two compare picture quality wise? (Please state the pc hardware that was used)

I'm in a quandary as to whether to go the Tivo route, which seems to be designed to not let me do what I can already do with the Showshifter box, now that its nicely set up, which is edit and dump recordings to DVD-R.

All info gratefully received as always!

Jason
