One of the main reasons I do it! (My amp is hidden by the end of the
sofa...)

There's one disadvantage with that. There's a little known extension to
the Svideo spec that is in common usage in Japan and the US and seems to
be implemented in more and more kit over here.

If you apply a 5V DC offset to the chroma pin, equipment that supports
it will switch into anamorphic widescreen mode. I've got a one off
version of John Sim's converter which I use with my Panasonic Plasma
with Sky digital. It looks for the voltage on pin 8, and passes it
through.

The only problem with that is that most of the switching ICs used in AV
amps don't support this signal, so end up stripping it out!

I did send an email to Pace about this regarding the Sky+ box not
supporting it, and they basically said tough shit, NO UK kit supports
it. ALL recent Panny TVs do, and I think the new Tosh stuff does too.
