Thanks for that. I don't think my TV (Panny 36" Tau) will detect the
difference automatically. You usually have to select S-Video or composite
manually. I'll give it a try to make sure. I've ordered some bidirectional
S-Video <--> composite convertors from CPC anyway. They're passive
devices,
only 7 quid each so it won't heard to try. I don't expect they're going to
do the signal any favours, but I'm only going to use them for VHS and
Homevision, so I'm not especially concerned ATM.

I wouldn't bother with this Steve - I have a SCART->S-Video going from
my
video to my amp's svideo input & it quite merrily treats it as svideo.
The TV then (I guess) decides it is really Composite & the piccie looks
fine. Try it & see.....
